American Fork City Volunteer Week Special Events

 Volunteer Fair – April 22, 2010 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.  American Fork Library, 64 South 100 East

Leslie Dalton, Bennion Center Continuous Community Service Award Recipient, Freelance Editor and Writer, and American Fork Library Board Member will be sharing her experiences about volunteerism starting at 6:30 p.m. Come learn about the many benefits of volunteering. Refreshments will be served.

The American Fork Volunteer Week Committee would like your assistance in recognizing exceptional volunteers in our community.   Winners will announced at the Volunteer Fair on
April 22, 2010, at the American Fork Library, 64 South 100 East.  Winners will also be honored at the Volunteer Thank You Concert on Saturday, April 24, 2010.   

Nominate someone for. . .

Outstanding  Board Volunteer Award:  Recognizes a member of a non-profit board or city-appointed board for exemplary volunteerism to the community and organization as a board member.

Good Neighbor Award:  Recognizes an individual who quietly helps his or her neighbor or neighborhood and voluntarily assists to make life/area better. 

Youth Award:  recognizes young people K-College who have selflessly volunteered to better our community through service to an individual(s) or organization. 

Arts & Culture Award:  recognizes an individual who demonstrates excellence in the areas of arts and culture through volunteerism.

Human Services Award:  recognizes an individual who volunteers to serve others by improving the quality of life for others in our community. 

Rising Star: Recognizes an individual who is beginning to discover the meaning of volunteerism in the community. This individual could be a youth or adult who embraces the idea of taking their volunteer "spirit" to new heights.

 

Submitting an Award Winning Nomination 

Original nomination forms must be completed per directions on form and submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 9, 2010 to:  American Fork Volunteer Week Committee, 51 East Main, American Fork, Utah. 

Nomination forms may be obtained here or at the American Fork City Administrative Offices, 51 East Main; the American Fork Library, 64 South 100 East; and the American Fork Fitness Center, 454 North Center Street.

The American Fork City has service opportunities available from time to time.  If you are interested in being involved in these activities or have an idea for a service activity, please fill out this form.  Service projects can include opportunities for families, youth groups, scouts, and neighborhood groups.  Your willingness to serve our community is appreciated.

 Ongoing Service Oportunities
Meals on Wheels -

Meals-on-Wheels needs volunteer drivers one day a week, for one hour, in a limited delivery radius from American Fork Senior Center. Volunteers use their own vehicles to pick up the food at the Senior Center and deliver the meals to the elderly, ill, frail, or disabled senior in their homes.  If you are interested in delivering Meals-On-Wheels, please contact Liz Merrell at 229-3821 or Erin Dyreng at 229-3803.  

 
Cabin Restoration in Robinson Park -

The Historic Preservation Committee is always looking for workers to help to restore the cabins located in Robinson Park (100 E and Main Street, American Fork.)  We are currently restoring the James Brown Cabin and building a wrought iron fence around the James Brown and Alexander Adamson cabins.  If you or your group are interested in helping with this project, please call Dan Adams at 756-3724.

 
Help keep the trees in the parks looking nice -

The Parks and Recreation Committee has identified a service opportunity to help keep the trees in the parks looking nice by digging rings around the trees and placing mulch to keep the weeds and grass down.  To learn more about this project click  here to review the guidelines and best practices.  Anyone interested in helping out with this project should contact Cal Houghton, Parks Superintendent, at 763-3060.
