The American Fork Community Literacy Center was founded in 1998 and provides one on one reading assistance to young students throughout the community. The Center is operated by a professional staff and is assisted by community volunteers. Students at the Center are tested by qualified instructors for the purpose of determining the precise curriculum to be used to improve reading skills. The reading assistance is provided as a public service from the city, as an ongoing part of the community’s commitment to enhance basic literacy skills of all our citizens.

Location of the American Fork Community Literacy Center
The American Fork Community Literacy Center is located in the basement of the American Fork Public Library at 64 South 100 East. The easiest way to find the Center is to take the elevator, adjacent to the front desk in the library, to the basement and follow the signs.
The original Center, which included nearly 2800 square feet, was dedicated in May of 1999 by then Lt. Governor Olene Walker. Ms Walker returned in 2003 to participate in the dedicatory ceremony of the expanded Center, which added 1800 square feet.
The Center includes a variety of computer assisted learning aids, a comprehensive library of resource books and its own dedicated curriculum to facilitate accelerated learning of basic reading skills. The American Fork Community Literacy Center is frequently referred to by various state officials as a “model for community based literacy programs in the state of Utah.”
English as a Second Language
In addition to teaching basic remedial reading skills, the Literacy Center also offers an evening class taught four times a week by trained and qualified instructors for English as a second language. (ESL). These classes are also provided at no cost to participants and convene Monday at 6:00 and Tuesdays through Thursdays at 7:00 PM. For more information please contact the Center. (492-3593)
The Center is proud of its excellent professional staff
